After hurricane Gustav, Houma withstood sustained hurricane force winds for 72 hours. Most damage was caused by wind and debris. Fallen trees (big old Louisiana trees), lost shingles, holes in roofs, broken fences and some water damage was the norm. On September 26, 2008 the College Church of Christ Disaster Relief Team arrived in Houma to offer help. The team was hosted by the Hollywood Road Church of Christ of Houma. Twenty homes were repaired and many lives were touched that weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are still with the people of Houma as the city and region continues to repair, restore and heal.
