R.O.C.K. Flag Football

(Respect.    Obedience.     Character.    Knowledge.)

Purpose

The purpose is to allow 3-6th graders (boys and girls) in our community to come together to play the game of football and grow closer to God.  There will be devotional and character messages at each practice and game.  We intend for the league to be competitive, but we also intend to keep it centered on God.  Our intent is to offer a top quality program in which all the kids will have fun, learn the game of football, and play in a way that glorifies God.  A devotional message will be given on each game day.   We will play Saturday afternoons from 2-4pm.  There will be only one midweek practice the entire season (the week before the 1st game).  A gameday consists of practice from 2 to 2:30, devotional and break until 3, and games from 3-4.   We will have 6 playing dates.

Organization

The Rock House Outreach Ministry of the College Church will coordinate this league under the direction of Todd Gentry and Stephen Burks.  There will be two divisions (3rd/4th and 5th/6th) that will play on Harding’s four intramural fields.

Dates

The dates for 2010 are as follows:  Sept. 11 and 18-minicamp (2-4pm) in GAC (come to south doors of gym).  All players must attend minicamp for skill assessment and team placement.  Game days are Sept 25, Oct. 2, 9, 16, & 23  at 2pm in HU intramural football fields (visible from Beebe-Capps, next to softball fields).  The 6th playing date is October 30, night game at 6pm.  November 13 is a possible playing date at 6pm, if needed.

Minicamp

The minicamp will consist of a series of stations in which everyone will be evaluated (including quarterback); it is intended to benefit both players and coaches.. Teams will be selected from minicamps based on skill evaluations.  We want to ensure that every team has a quarterback  so there will be a special QB workout after the first minicamp for those who are interested in playing quarterback.

Cost

The cost for each child will be $50 , but there is an early signing bonus/discount of $5 for registering by August 24th.  Mouthguards will be required.  Headgear (soft) is not required, but if desired, it must be purchased through the league to ensure consistency ($40 per headgear, can be re-used).  Multi-child discounts are available.  Half-scholarships available to those who qualify.

Rules

We will play 7-7 rules which means everyone eligible for receiving and running; no lineman, no pass rush.

Signups are taking place now at the Rock House (On Market Street behind Midnight Oil) during the day.  Call the Rock House @268-4191 or visit www.collegechurchofchrist.com for more information. There will be a night registration available on August 24, from 6-8pm at the Rock House. The final date to sign up to play is Sept. 11.
